The Compassionate Conservationist

Latest Charity News

I’ve been having so much fun with my latest initiative at the Silent Heroes Foundation, Silent Hero of the Month!  Each month I select, feature, and honor someone who works tirelessly to promote wildlife conservation or one health in Africa. This person receives a care package of support, to let them know how much they are appreciated, and to provide them with some much-needed resources for self-care and relaxation. Psychological health & well-being are often neglected in such a demanding career, in order to prioritize the needs of their patients, or the needs of the wildlife they work so hard to preserve and protect. Silent Heroes are all too good at putting themselves last on the priority list, and I hope to change that!

Please check out the amazing Heroes honored thus far.  If you would like to donate to honor a Hero of the Month, please do so here.

Filda, Lead Dog Trainer for The Comfort Dog Project, and Silent Hero of the Month of March 2017.

From The Comfort Dog Project: “We are very grateful to The Silent Heroes Foundation for bestowing this deserved honor on Filda and for providing gifts that will change the quality of Filda’s life, including a mattress, sheets, a blanket, cups, plates, cooking pots, soap, sugar and a beautiful new dress (which Filda is wearing in the photos). The gifts were given at the weekly training meeting of the new CDP guardians.”

From Filda:
“My hero is Lok Oroma (her comfort dog) because Lok Oroma is giving me comfort, although I went through tough times while I was subjected to inhuman tortures and witnessed traumatic events in the bush as I was abducted by Lord Resistance Army in Northern Uganda. So Lok Oroma makes me happy and I forget about the trauma.”
